Adobe is expanding its AI-driven strategy by integrating core features from Photoshop, Express, and Acrobat directly into ChatGPT. This move allows the chatbot's extensive user base, exceeding 800 million, to leverage Adobe's powerful applications for image editing, PDF modification, and animation tasks simply by issuing commands within the AI interface.

Users can now instruct ChatGPT to utilize Photoshop for a range of image manipulation tasks, including:

  • Editing specific parts of images.
  • Removing or blurring backgrounds.
  • Adjusting exposure, brightness, and contrast.
  • Applying various effects, with options to modify intensity using sliders.

With Adobe Express support, ChatGPT enables users to:

  • Access existing designs from its library.
  • Create themed visuals.
  • Animate elements.
  • Edit designs seamlessly.

Furthermore, Acrobat's PDF editing capabilities within ChatGPT allow for:

  • Merging multiple PDF files.
  • Editing or extracting text and tables from documents.
  • Performing other advanced PDF management functions.

Should users require more intricate control or access to features not available within ChatGPT, they retain the option to seamlessly transition their work into Adobe's native applications to complete their projects.

These integrated features are rolling out globally. While all three Adobe apps are supported on ChatGPT's desktop, web, and iOS platforms, only Adobe Express is currently available on ChatGPT for Android. Adobe has confirmed that Photoshop and Acrobat support for Android will be introduced soon.

This integration aligns with Adobe's significant investment in AI technologies throughout the year. The company has launched numerous AI-powered features and products, including AI assistants for Express and Photoshop in October, and has teased a cross-application assistant known as Project Moonlight.

The financial arrangement between OpenAI and Adobe, specifically regarding potential revenue sharing, remains undisclosed. OpenAI began supporting third-party applications within ChatGPT in October, initially partnering with services like Canva, Spotify, Expedia, and Figma. As more companies integrate their tools into the popular chatbot, a key challenge will be differentiating their offerings and encouraging users to choose their specific app over a competitor's within the ChatGPT ecosystem. For instance, users can now choose between Canva and Photoshop for image editing via the chatbot, potentially leading to a preference dilemma for those not already loyal to either platform.
