Apple has announced its annual App Store Award winners for 2025, celebrating the year's most innovative and impactful applications and games. While the tech giant continued its trend of not explicitly naming a dedicated AI app or chatbot as its overall "App of the Year," artificial intelligence prominently featured among this year's top honorees, underscoring its pervasive integration into leading software.
The iPhone App of the Year, Tiimo, exemplifies this trend. Described as a visual AI planner, Tiimo transforms to-do lists into structured plans with visual timelines. It leverages AI to break down tasks, estimate completion times for each step, and help users create realistic schedules.
Similarly, the iPad App of the Year, Detail, simplifies video editing through its "Auto Edit" AI feature. This intelligent tool automates common editing tasks such as silence removal, zoom cuts, and the addition of titles and captions, streamlining the creative process for users.
AI's impact also extended to Apple's "Cultural Impact" awards, which recognize apps offering helpful tools, promoting understanding, or fostering a more inclusive world. Among these winners, StoryGraph utilizes machine learning AI to provide personalized book recommendations based on user reading data. Another Cultural Impact recipient, Be My Eyes, offers an AI assistant that delivers visual descriptions of real-world images, significantly enhancing accessibility for blind and low-vision individuals.
Even fitness applications are embracing AI, as demonstrated by Strava, the Apple Watch App of the Year. Strava incorporates an AI assistant that transforms raw workout data into actionable insights, helping users better understand and optimize their performance.
Apple initially announced 45 finalists for its 2025 awards in November, which were then narrowed down to 17 winners across various categories. These awards also recognized outstanding apps and games for iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, Apple TV, and the Apple Arcade subscription service.
