Momentic, an artificial intelligence (AI) powered startup specializing in software testing, has successfully raised $15 million in Series A funding. This significant investment round was led by Standard Capital, with notable participation from Dropbox Ventures. Existing investors, including Y Combinator, FCVC, Transpose Platform, and Karman Ventures, also contributed to the round, building on the company's previous $3.7 million seed funding announced in March.

While product demonstrations often capture the spotlight, the backbone of robust software development lies in less glamorous but critical tasks such as debugging, quality assurance (QA), and comprehensive testing. These essential processes ensure software functions as intended, and increasingly, developers are turning to AI to automate these demanding workloads. Momentic aims to revolutionize this space by making software testing both simple and highly effective.

"We help our customers make sure their product works," explained co-founder Wei-Wei Wu. "They can describe their critical user flows in plain English, and our AI will automate it."

Wu, alongside co-founder Jeff An, brings extensive experience in developer tooling from companies like Qualtrics and WeWork. Wu, particularly proud of his contributions to the open-source Node.js project, noted that the persistent challenge across all their previous ventures was code verification. "Testing has been the biggest pain point for every team I’ve ever worked with," Wu shared with TechCrunch.

Momentic's AI-driven approach has quickly gained traction, attracting a diverse client base. The company currently serves 2,600 users, including prominent names such as Notion, Xero, Bilt, Webflow, and Retool. While Wu remained discreet about specific revenue and profitability figures, he affirmed that the product's substantial growth has been compelling enough to secure investor confidence.

The automation of tests not only streamlines the process but also enables testing at an unprecedented scale. Wu estimates that Momentic's platform automated over 200 million test steps in the past month alone, a volume that would have been unachievable through traditional methods.

Operating in a niche traditionally dominated by open-source frameworks like Playwright and Selenium, Momentic differentiates itself by leveraging AI to simplify complex, fine-grained controls. However, the company also faces potential competition from the very foundation models driving AI innovation. Both OpenAI and Anthropic are exploring agentic testing capabilities, which could eventually narrow the market for specialized enterprise SaaS solutions like Momentic as these models become more sophisticated.

For now, Wu is focused on enhancing Momentic's product offerings with the newly acquired capital. The company expanded its support to mobile environments in August and plans to develop more sophisticated test-case management features by bringing additional engineers on board.

Wu anticipates that the proliferation of automated coding will lead to a surge in new applications, consequently driving greater demand for robust testing solutions. "All of these apps need testing," he asserted. "They care about quality, and we’re going to provide it for them."
