Empromptu, a burgeoning AI startup, has successfully closed a $2 million pre-seed funding round. The company, co-founded by tech veteran Sheena Leven and AI researcher Sean Robinson, is on a mission to democratize AI application development, enabling businesses—even those without deep technical expertise—to build sophisticated AI tools.
The capital injection, led by Precursor Ventures, will fuel Empromptu's growth, allowing it to expand its team and further develop its proprietary technology.
From CodeSee to Empromptu: A Founder's Vision
Sheena Leven, whose previous company CodeSee was acquired in 2024, brings a wealth of experience to Empromptu. She learned two crucial lessons during her entrepreneurial journey: understanding the true needs of businesses versus purely visionary concepts, and the enduring importance of fundamental principles like security, compliance, reliability, and quality, even amidst new technologies such as AI.
"Security, compliance, reliability, quality, those things don't just go away for enterprise applications," Leven stated.
Motivated by these insights, Leven partnered with Robinson last October to create Empromptu, aiming to bridge the gap between innovative business ideas and practical AI implementation for a broader audience.
How Empromptu Simplifies AI Application Development
Empromptu's platform simplifies AI app creation significantly. Users interact with an intuitive AI chatbot, articulating their desired application—whether it's a new classification tool or a generative recommendation system. The platform then autonomously builds the requested AI application.
Beyond initial generation, Empromptu provides advanced Large Language Model (LLM) tools, allowing users to fine-tune results and integrate AI features directly into their existing codebases.
Beyond "Vibe Coding": Building Production-Ready AI
Leven emphasizes that Empromptu is distinct from "vibe-coding" platforms like Replit or Lovable, which are excellent for rapid experimentation. She positions Empromptu as the tool that transforms these experiments into robust, real-world software.
"Vibe coding is excellent for quick experiments, but Empromptu is what turns those experiments into real software," Leven explained. She continued, "Empromptu turns ideas into production features with built-in evaluation, governance, and self-improvement. You ship to real customers, with real data and complete control. If vibe coding is the brainstorm, Empromptu is the build."
Pre-Seed Funding Fuels Growth and Innovation
The $2 million pre-seed round saw Precursor Ventures at the helm. Additional participation came from Zeal Capital, Alumni Ventures, Founders Edge, and South Loop. Leven confirmed the fresh capital would be strategically allocated to hiring new talent and advancing the company's proprietary technology.
Targeting Complex Industries and Democratizing AI
Empromptu is particularly focused on serving businesses operating in regulated or "deeply complex" sectors, such as those requiring intricate data capture and application development for industries like hospitality. Leven's overarching vision is to empower founders to leverage the AI revolution to transform their businesses without the prerequisite of mastering complex technical skills.
"It's just like any other skill," Leven concluded. "And the beauty of this skill is that AI can help you learn it along the way."
