Coca-Cola has officially launched its new holiday campaign, "Refresh Your Holidays," signaling a strategic blend of cutting-edge artificial intelligence and timeless festive nostalgia. Unveiled on Monday, November 3, the campaign features two distinct new advertising spots alongside a series of experiential activations designed to deepen consumer connection during the holiday season.
Doubling Down on AI with "Holidays Are Coming"
A cornerstone of the "Refresh Your Holidays" campaign is a "refreshed and optimized version" of the iconic "Holidays Are Coming" ad, which was originally developed using generative artificial intelligence (AI). This 60-second spot opens with Santa Claus enjoying a Coca-Cola before following the magical journey of delivery trucks that bring light and joy, captivating various animals—including polar bears, penguins, puppies, and rabbits—as they pass by.
The initial AI-generated ad faced some controversy upon its release last year. However, Coca-Cola executives defended its performance, stating it met the company's benchmarks for Christmas advertising, as well as those of competitors. Given Coca-Cola's profound historical influence on public perceptions of figures like Santa Claus, its continued investment in AI-powered creative content carries significant weight. The development of the refreshed "Holidays Are Coming" ads involved collaboration with Silverside AI and Secret Level.
Evoking Emotion with "A Holiday Memory"
Complementing the AI-driven spot is a new 30-second TV commercial titled "A Holiday Memory." This ad, set to air across North America, Latin America, and Asia South-Pacific markets, centers on a woman decorating for the holidays. She discovers a snow globe, triggering a warm recollection of a vibrant family gathering where the festive song "Feliz Navidad" was performed, emphasizing the emotional resonance of shared holiday moments.
Integrated Campaign Strategy and Reach
Islam ElDessouky, Global Vice President of Creative Strategy and Content at Coca-Cola, highlighted the campaign's core philosophy. "Building on last year's campaign, this evolution truly embodies our commitment to inspiring human connection and uplifting moments especially during the holiday season," ElDessouky stated.
The "Refresh Your Holidays" campaign was developed by WPP Open X, with VML leading the effort and support from EssenceMediacom, Ogilvy, and Burson. It will be extensively rolled out across multiple channels, including TV, online video, digital platforms, out-of-home advertising, social media, in-store promotions, and on-pack branding. Further enhancing the festive spirit, the brand will also conduct its beloved tour of iconic Christmas trucks throughout November and December.
Marketing Transformation Amidst Growth
This ambitious marketing push comes as Coca-Cola reported strong financial performance, with net revenue growing 5% to $12.5 billion in Q3, per an earnings report. CEO James Quincey emphasized the company's broader marketing vision during a call around the earnings, stating, "Our marketing transformation is centered on connecting deeply with consumers through digital engagement, personalized experiences and cultural relevance."
The campaign underscores Coca-Cola's ongoing commitment to innovation while staying true to its legacy of fostering holiday cheer and connection, blending advanced technology with heartfelt storytelling.
