OpenAI's ChatGPT mobile app has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing $3 billion in worldwide consumer spending this week. This impressive figure, reported by app intelligence provider Appfigures, encompasses total spending on both iOS and Android devices since the app's initial launch on iOS in May 2023.

A closer look at the data reveals that the vast majority of this spending occurred in the current year. In 2025 alone, global consumers spent an estimated $2.48 billion on the ChatGPT mobile app, marking a staggering 408% year-over-year increase from the $487 million recorded in 2024. During its inaugural year of availability in 2023, the app generated $42.9 million, which then surged by an astounding 1,036% to reach the 2024 total.

Outpacing Industry Giants
This rapid accumulation of revenue underscores ChatGPT's exceptional consumer adoption rate compared to other leading applications. Appfigures data shared with TechCrunch highlights that ChatGPT achieved the $3 billion spending mark in just 31 months. In contrast, industry leader TikTok required 58 months to reach the same milestone.
The AI chatbot also outpaced major streaming services, with Disney+ taking 42 months and HBO Max requiring 46 months to hit the $3 billion consumer spending threshold.
