Google has confirmed the resolution of widespread issues that affected Gmail accounts on Saturday, causing emails to be misclassified and leading to an influx of spam. The problems, which began around 5 AM Pacific, were noted on the official Google Workspace status dashboard, detailing user complaints of "misclassification of emails in their inbox and additional spam warnings."

Users reported their primary inboxes were flooded with messages typically sorted into Promotions, Social, or Updates categories. Additionally, legitimate emails from known senders were flagged with spam warnings. Social media platforms saw numerous complaints, with users noting:

"all the spam is going directly to my inbox"

Throughout Saturday, Google's status dashboard provided updates, indicating active efforts to address the disruption. By Saturday evening, the company announced that the issue had been "fully resolved for all users."

In a dashboard update, Google elaborated on the impact, stating, "Some Gmail users experienced a misclassification of emails in their inbox, delays in receiving email." The company also cautioned that "misclassified spam warnings from the incident may persist for existing messages received before the issue resolution."

Google further committed to publishing an analysis of the incident upon completion of its internal investigation.
