Snapchat has officially launched its highly anticipated 2025 year-end Recaps, offering users a personalized video compilation of their most memorable Snaps, Stories, and Chats. This annual feature, which provides a nostalgic look back at how users connected and expressed themselves throughout the year, arrives amidst a broader trend of platforms releasing similar year-end summaries. However, the rollout also coincides with significant user backlash regarding Snapchat's upcoming paid storage plans for its "Memories" feature.
To access their personalized 2025 Snap Recap, users simply need to open the Snapchat app and navigate to the "Memories" section, where they will find a dedicated "Your 2025 Snap Recap" card.
Snapchat's Recap launch follows a growing industry trend, with companies like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Duolingo all releasing their own popular year-end summaries.
Snapchat's 2025 User Engagement Highlights
In conjunction with the Recaps, Snapchat also released compelling user engagement statistics for the past year. The data highlights the continued importance of direct communication on the platform:
- Users engaged in nearly 1.7 billion minutes of phone calls daily on average, marking a significant 30% increase from the previous year.
- In the U.S. alone, over five billion voice notes were sent, up almost 10% year-over-year.
- Group chats saw continued growth, with the number of people sending messages to group chats increasing by more than 5% in 2025. Some highly engaged users sent over 8,880 messages to their primary group chats this year.
- Chat Reactions surged by 44% this year, with the heart emoji being the most popular choice.
- An additional three million people incorporated stickers into their communications this year.
Controversy Over Paid Memories Storage
The release of the 2025 Recaps is overshadowed by considerable user discontent regarding Snapchat's upcoming policy to charge for "Memories" storage. Many users have voiced their frustration, with some calling for a boycott to pressure the company into reconsidering its decision.
Snapchat initially announced in September that free access to Memories would be capped at 5GB. Users whose stored memories exceed this threshold will be required to subscribe to one of the new Memories Storage plans, set to take effect next year.
- The basic paid plan offers up to 100GB of storage for $1.99 per month.
- Snapchat+ subscribers will receive up to 250GB of storage as part of their $3.99 monthly subscription.
- Premium Snapchat Platinum users will gain access to a substantial 5TB of storage for $15.99 per month.
