Meta's dedicated video editing application, Edits, has rolled out a significant update, introducing a suite of new features aimed at streamlining content creation for users. These enhancements include improved storyboard functionality, an expanded library of templates, and new iOS lock screen widgets, making it easier for creators to produce engaging short-form video content.

Enhanced Storyboard Functionality

One of the key improvements is the refined content planning process, which introduces enhanced storyboard functionality. Users can now more easily map out their video ideas using virtual sticky notes. This feature allows creators to attach video clips directly to their notes, providing a structured way to plan their projects. These planning notes are then overlaid onto the actual project within Edits, seamlessly integrating the conceptualization phase with the creative workflow.

Expanded Template Library

Edits is also expanding its template library, offering new formats aligned with popular music, emerging trends, and other viral content styles. This allows users to tap into current trends by simply selecting a template and adding their own clips, simplifying the process of creating trending videos. The Edits team notes that the template rollout is ongoing, with some users in select regions (U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland) already seeing a dedicated 'Templates' section within the app.

New iOS Lock Screen Widgets

For iPhone users, Edits has introduced new lock screen widgets. These widgets provide quick access to the app's camera or allow users to view sticky note reminders of content ideas, which are saved directly within the application.

Additional Creative Tools

Further enhancing customization, users can now select a secondary color for their text and captions. Additionally, creators can now integrate publicly posted Instagram Reels directly into their projects, opening up possibilities for reaction videos and other collaborative content.

With these continuous updates, Meta's Edits app solidifies its position as a valuable tool for content creators, particularly those focused on short-form video. Its range of features is designed to help users produce more resonant and engaging video clips. Given that the app is free, it presents an accessible and powerful option for anyone looking to enhance their video editing capabilities.
