Apple Blocks Fortnite's Return to App Store

Epic Games alleges that Apple is preventing Fortnite's return to the US and EU App Stores. This follows a legal win for Epic Games, which required Apple to allow alternative payment methods in the US App Store.

On May 9, 2025, Epic Games attempted to resubmit Fortnite to the US App Store. After Apple failed to approve the submission for a week, Epic Games withdrew and resubmitted an updated version on May 14, 2025.

According to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, the initial update was pulled because Fortnite requires simultaneous updates across all platforms. The delay caused by Apple's inaction forced Epic to resubmit.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Fortnite announced Apple blocked the latest US submission and is preventing the app's release in the European Union.

Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it.

This ongoing dispute prevents iOS and EU users from accessing Fortnite. The previous legal victory secured by Epic Games allowed developers to bypass Apple's commission on in-app purchases using external payment systems.

TechCrunch has contacted both Epic Games and Apple for comment and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
