Chipotle Executive Jack Hartung Appointed to Tesla Board
Jack Hartung, a seasoned executive from Chipotle Mexican Grill, has joined Tesla's board of directors. The announcement coincided with Tesla's ongoing development of a retro-themed diner and charging station in Los Angeles.
Hartung Brings Decades of Restaurant Experience
Hartung served as Chipotle's CFO, President, and Chief Strategy Officer for over two decades. He oversaw finance, accounting, supply chain, strategy, safety, and asset protection as Chipotle expanded to over 3,700 restaurants globally. Before Chipotle, Hartung spent nearly 20 years at McDonald's, where he was VP and CFO of the partner brands group.
Tesla Diner Launch and Hartung's Expertise
Hartung's appointment comes as Tesla prepares to open its highly anticipated 1950s-style diner and charging station. The company previously advertised for a "Tesla Diner Experience Specialist" to enhance customer service at the new location. It remains to be seen how Hartung's restaurant industry expertise will contribute to Tesla's diner venture.
Related-Party Disclosure and Board Compensation
Tesla's SEC filing disclosed that Hartung's son-in-law has worked as a Tesla service technician since 2016. Tesla stated that his compensation aligns with company standards. Hartung will officially join the board and audit committee on June 1st. He has waived cash and equity compensation, following the precedent set by other board members.
