Digg Considers Acquiring Pocket from Mozilla

Digg, the revived Web 2.0 link aggregator, has expressed interest in acquiring Mozilla's read-it-later app, Pocket.

Mozilla recently announced it will shut down Pocket on July 8, 2025, citing evolving web usage patterns. Shortly after, Kevin Rose, Digg's co-founder alongside Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, publicly expressed interest in acquiring Pocket.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rose stated, "We love Pocket at Digg, happy to take it over and continue to support your users for years to come." He tagged both Mozilla and Pocket, as well as Betaworks founding partner Peter Rojas.

We love Pocket at Digg, happy to take it over and continue to support your users for years to come!

Neither company has officially commented on the potential acquisition. However, such a deal could significantly benefit Digg's relaunch by leveraging Pocket's existing user base.

Potential Synergies for Digg

Integrating Pocket's reading list with Digg could streamline content sharing and provide a valuable content pipeline for the news aggregator. This could be crucial for Digg as it works to rebuild its user base.

Digg's return has garnered attention, particularly with the partnership of Rose and Ohanian, who co-founded Reddit, a former Digg competitor. The company also recently announced Christian Selig, creator of the popular Reddit app Apollo, as an advisor.

This potential acquisition could mark a significant development in the tech landscape, merging two well-known platforms and potentially revitalizing Digg's presence online.
