Life360 Integrates Tile Tracking Directly Into App
Life360, the family safety and location app, has fully integrated Tile's item tracking capabilities. After acquiring Tile over three years ago, this update allows users to track both family members and their belongings within a single app.
Track Everything in One Place
Users can now monitor the real-time location of loved ones and valuable items like keys, wallets, and bags. This integration streamlines the tracking process and centralizes both user bases within the Life360 app.
The rollout began Wednesday and will be complete within the next few weeks. Tile users will receive in-app messages directing them to Life360. Life360 users will find a new "Items" section within the Location tab, below the existing "People" and "Pets" sections.
New Features and Benefits
Tracked items belonging to Life360 family members will appear on the in-app map in real-time. Two days of location history are available for free. Subscription plans offer extended history:
- Silver: 7 days of location history, plus access to emergency dispatch services through the Tile SOS button (2024 Tile devices only).
- Gold and Platinum: 30 days of location history.
Automatic notifications for left-behind items are also coming soon.
The Future of Tile
Tile.com now redirects to Life360.com. While the standalone Tile app remains active, Life360 hasn't announced plans for its discontinuation. However, full integration within Life360 may signal the eventual phasing out of the separate Tile app.
This integration aims to create a comprehensive location network. However, the delayed rollout allows competitors like Chipolo, which integrates with Apple and Google's finding networks, to gain market share.
Life360's acquisition of Tile aimed to create the largest finding network. While the integration strengthens Life360's offerings, the landscape of item tracking has evolved since the initial acquisition.
The integration of Tile into Life360 provides a convenient solution for families to track both people and possessions. The coming weeks will reveal how this impacts the item tracking market.
