Salesforce Acquires Informatica in $8 Billion Deal

Salesforce has acquired Informatica, a leading cloud data management company, for $8 billion. This strategic move significantly strengthens Salesforce's artificial intelligence (AI) and data infrastructure capabilities.

The acquisition, announced Tuesday, follows earlier rumors from about a year ago. At that time, Informatica denied being for sale. The deal involves Salesforce paying $25 per share in cash for Informatica's Class A and Class B-1 common stock, adjusted for its prior investment.

Boosting AI and Data Cloud

Informatica, founded in 1993, serves over 5,000 customers in more than 100 countries. This acquisition will bolster Salesforce's agentic AI ambitions by providing enhanced data infrastructure and governance. This will enable safer and more responsible scaling of AI agents across enterprise environments.

Together, we'll supercharge Agentforce, Data Cloud, Tableau, MuleSoft, and Customer 360, enabling autonomous agents to act with intelligence, context, and confidence across every enterprise. This is a transformational step in delivering enterprise-grade AI that is safe, responsible, and deeply integrated with the world's data.

From Rumor to Reality

Initial reports of Salesforce's interest in Informatica surfaced in April 2024, causing a dip in both companies' share prices. Informatica publicly denied any sale discussions at the time. However, this once-rumored acquisition is now a reality.

Salesforce's Data Management Focus

This isn't Salesforce's first data management acquisition in recent times. In September 2024, Salesforce acquired Own Company for $1.9 billion in cash to enhance its data protection and management offerings.

This acquisition further solidifies Salesforce's commitment to providing robust data solutions for its customers.
