Snapchat Arrives on Apple Watch
Snapchat officially launched its dedicated Apple Watch app globally. This allows users to quickly respond to messages directly from their wrist.
The new watchOS app lets users preview and reply to Snaps using several input methods. These include the keyboard, Scribble, Dictation, and emojis. This makes it easier to send quick replies while on the go.
Previously, Apple Watch users could only preview Snapchat messages. This new app provides full messaging functionality, expanding Snapchat's reach beyond mobile, web, and tablets.
“The number of devices we use daily has grown,” Snap stated in a blog post. “We're seeing our community enjoy Snapchat across various platforms. This Apple Watch app builds on our commitment to making Snapchat available across all your devices, including wearables.”
This launch marks a significant shift for Snapchat. CEO Evan Spiegel previously expressed reservations about the Apple Watch's small screen. The focus now is on quick replies, not viewing images or videos.
Snapchat is now ahead of rivals like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp in offering a dedicated Apple Watch app.
