Spotify Enables Direct Audiobook Purchases in iOS App

Spotify announced that Apple has approved a significant app update. US iPhone users can now purchase audiobooks directly within the Spotify app. This streamlines the buying process and makes accessing audiobooks more convenient.

Previously, users had to purchase audiobooks on the web before listening in the app. This older process was due to Apple's in-app purchase rules, which led Spotify to remove in-app audiobook purchases in 2022. Now, buying an audiobook on an iPhone is just a few taps away.

Easier Access to Additional Listening Hours

The update also simplifies purchasing additional listening hours, known as "top-ups." Before, users had to visit the Spotify website to buy these extra hours. Now, they can purchase top-ups directly within the iOS app. Each top-up provides 10 additional hours for $13.

This change makes it easier for users to discover and enjoy audiobooks. It also provides authors and publishers with a more seamless way to connect with their audience.

This update follows a recent court ruling that impacted Apple's App Store policies. Earlier this month, Apple also approved an update allowing Spotify to provide pricing information and external payment links for subscriptions within its iOS app.

Spotify believes this change will lower the barrier to entry for audiobook listeners, benefiting both consumers and creators.
