WordPress Forms Dedicated AI Team
WordPress has announced the creation of a dedicated AI team to spearhead the integration of artificial intelligence into its core platform. This team will operate similarly to the existing Performance Team, focusing on developing plugins that allow users to test new AI functionalities. This testing phase will inform decisions about future core integration.
The team aims to establish a strategic focus, accelerate testing and deployment, and provide a central hub for collaboration on AI projects.
The team includes two Google engineers, Felix Arntz, a Senior Software Engineer and WordPress core contributor, and Pascal Birchler, a Developer Relations Engineer and WordPress core committer. Birchler recently led a project integrating the Model Context Protocol (MCP) with WordPress via WP-CLI.
“This is an exciting and important step in WordPress’s evolution. I look forward to seeing what we’ll create together and in the open.”
WordPress Catches Up with Competitors
Forming this AI team is a significant move for WordPress. Other platforms, like Drupal and Wix, already offer built-in AI features. This initiative allows WordPress to explore and implement AI capabilities to enhance user workflows.
