YouTube Shorts Adds Google Lens for Enhanced Search

YouTube is integrating Google Lens into Shorts, allowing users to visually search within videos. This new feature, rolling out in beta, lets viewers identify objects and locations directly from Shorts content.

Imagine watching a Short filmed in an intriguing location. Simply pause the video, select "Lens," and tap the landmark. Google Lens will identify it, providing information about its culture and history.

How it Works

Pause a Short and select the "Lens" option in the top menu. Draw, highlight, or tap the object you want to search. Lens overlays visual matches and search results directly onto the Short. Return to your video seamlessly once finished.

Competitive Edge

This integration enhances YouTube Shorts' search capabilities, offering a unique feature not found on competitors like TikTok and Instagram Reels. It provides a more intuitive and interactive way to discover and explore content.

Beta Details

During the beta phase, search results within Lens in Shorts will be ad-free. The feature is currently unavailable for Shorts with YouTube Shopping affiliate links or paid product promotions.

This update is part of YouTube's ongoing effort to enhance Shorts and compete with other short-form video platforms. Recent additions include improved video editing tools, AI-generated stickers, and music syncing features for creators.
