Amazon is enhancing its Fire TV experience with a new AI-powered feature that allows users to jump directly to specific movie scenes on Prime Video using natural voice commands via Alexa+. Announced on Wednesday, this innovative capability aims to significantly streamline content navigation, making it easier for viewers to find and access desired moments within films.

"Our number one mission at Fire TV is getting you to what you want to watch—fast," Amazon wrote in a blog post. "Today’s launch builds on that mission with this new AI-powered feature. Just describe a movie scene like you would to a friend, and Alexa+ will jump directly to that specific moment—no more searching required."

Users can describe scenes to Alexa+ by mentioning details such as an actor's or character's name, or a memorable quote. For instance, a user could say:

  • "Jump to the scene in Mamma Mia where Sophie sings ‘Honey Honey’."
  • "Jump to the scene where Deloris Jordan says ‘a shoe is just a shoe until my son steps into it’."
  • "Jump to the scene when John McClane says ‘come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs’."
  • "Jump to the card scene in Love Actually."

Alexa+ boasts the ability to identify the movie even if the title isn't explicitly mentioned. It leverages visual understanding and movie captions to comprehend characters, plot, and action within scenes, pinpointing the exact moment a user is looking for.

This new functionality, like Alexa+ itself, is built upon Amazon Bedrock, the company's generative AI service. Bedrock provides access to a selection of generative AI models from Amazon and third-party partners via an API. The feature specifically utilizes various large language models (LLMs), including Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude.

Currently, the feature supports thousands of movie titles available on Prime Video, encompassing tens of thousands of indexed scenes. Amazon has plans to expand this capability to include more movies and scenes, as well as integrate it with TV shows in the near future.

It's important to note that this AI scene-jumping feature is exclusively available for movies included with a Prime membership or those purchased or rented directly through Prime Video.
