AI powerhouse Anthropic is reportedly in advanced discussions to secure a staggering $10 billion in new funding, which would propel its valuation to an estimated $350 billion. This potential mega-round, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, marks the company's third significant capital raise within a year, underscoring the intense investor interest in the generative AI space.
The maker of the Claude AI models has seen its valuation skyrocket in recent months. Just three months ago, Anthropic closed a $13 billion Series F round at a $183 billion valuation. Prior to that, in March, the company secured $3.5 billion, valuing it at $61.5 billion. This latest proposed funding round would nearly double the AI firm's already impressive valuation.
Sources familiar with the matter told the WSJ that Coatue Management and GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, are expected to lead this new financing round. While Anthropic anticipates closing the deal in the coming weeks, the final amount could still be subject to change.
This prospective funding is distinct from the $15 billion commitment recently announced by Microsoft and Nvidia. That "circular" agreement involves Anthropic purchasing $30 billion worth of compute capacity from Microsoft Azure, powered by Nvidia's chips, effectively recycling the investment back into its partners' ecosystems.
The fresh capital comes as Anthropic continues to expand its reach, notably with Claude Code, its tool designed to automate coding tasks, powered by its advanced Claude Opus 4.5 model. The company is also reportedly preparing for a potential initial public offering (IPO) this year, positioning itself alongside its primary competitor, OpenAI. OpenAI itself is reportedly seeking to raise as much as $100 billion at a $750 billion valuation, highlighting the intense capital race within the generative AI sector.
