Roblox CEO Dave Baszuki recently appeared on The New York Times' Hard Fork podcast, ostensibly to discuss the gaming platform's new age verification feature. However, the conversation quickly pivoted to persistent questions regarding child safety on the platform, leading to visible frustration from the CEO during the interview.

The interview commenced with Baszuki detailing Roblox's upcoming age verification process. This new feature will require all users to submit a face scan if they wish to access the platform's messaging capabilities, a measure intended to bolster user safety and compliance.

Despite the initial focus on this new security measure, the discussion repeatedly circled back to broader concerns about child safety on the popular gaming platform. When confronted with a report alleging that the company had prioritized growth over user protection, Baszuki's patience appeared to wear thin.

"Fun. Let's keep going down this," Baszuki reportedly responded, indicating his growing weariness with the topic.

Later in the interview, when co-host Kevin Roose agreed that one of the most effective ways for Roblox to improve child safety was to enhance its AI models, Baszuki retorted with a sarcastic tone.

"Good, so you're aligning with what we did. High-five," he said, implying agreement while still conveying irritation.

Baszuki further expressed his disappointment, stating his original intent for the podcast appearance was to discuss a wider range of topics.

"And I want to highlight, I came here because I love your podcast and came to talk about everything," he added. "So if our PR people said, ‘Let’s talk about age-gating for an hour,’ I’m up for it, but I love your pod. I thought I came here to talk about everything."
