YouTube is officially joining the popular end-of-year recap trend, launching its first-ever personalized "Recap" for its main video platform. Following the success of its YouTube Music Recap, the company recently announced this new feature, allowing users to revisit their year in video content and offering a direct competitor to experiences like Spotify Wrapped.

The YouTube Recap presents users with a dynamic set of up to 12 personalized cards. These cards are designed to highlight a user's top channels, evolving interests, shifts in their viewing habits, and even assign a unique personality type based on their preferred video content.

For instance, the "Skill Builder" personality type is attributed to users who are drawn to content that helps develop new abilities, while "Sunshiners" gravitate toward videos that spread positivity. "Trailblazers" are identified by their preference for original content that challenges the norm. Other identified personality types include the "Wonder Seeker," the "Connector," and the "Dreamer."

While the main Recap focuses on general video consumption, users will still be able to see their top artists and songs of the year within this new experience. For more in-depth musical insights, the annual YouTube Music Recap, which began rolling out last week, remains available within the dedicated YouTube Music app.

The YouTube Recap is now available to users in North America, with a global rollout expected this week. Users can easily find their personalized recap directly on the YouTube homepage or under the "You" tab, accessible on both mobile devices and desktop. YouTube stated that this new feature was a direct response to user requests and underwent over 50 different concept tests before its final release.

Alongside the launch of Recap, YouTube also released its annual trend charts, showcasing the top creators, podcasts, and songs of the year. For the sixth consecutive year, MrBeast claimed the top spot for creators. "The Joe Rogan Experience" was named the top podcast, and Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga's "Die With A Smile" secured the number one song.

YouTube's new Recap arrives amidst a flurry of similar year-end summaries from other streaming giants. It launched on the same day as Apple Music's Replay and Amazon Music's Delivered. With Spotify's highly anticipated Wrapped yet to be released, it appears competitors are eager to capture early social media buzz and user engagement.
