Esports giant FaZe Clan is facing a significant shake-up as six prominent influencers have announced their departure. The mass exodus stems from unsuccessful contract negotiations with the organization's new management, casting a shadow over FaZe Clan's future.
According to Bloomberg, the departing influencers include Adapt, Jason, Ronaldo, Lacy, Rage, and Silky. Notably, these individuals represented the entire roster listed on the official FaZe Clan website, signaling a comprehensive shift within the organization.
Adapt, a long-standing member, expressed his sentiments on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
"Over half of my life, I’d be lying if I said this didn’t hurt, but it had to be done."
This sentiment echoes concerns raised by another former FaZe Clan member who departed in August, describing a feeling of having:
"no control, and it’s like we’re puppets."
The departing influencers had reportedly been in negotiations for the past six months with HardScope, a FaZe Clan investor, and its CEO, Matt Kalish. Kalish has indicated his intention to continue the esports group without the recently departed members. Speaking to Bloomberg, Kalish commented:
"My best guess is they’re all good kids and have a lot of people in their ear and are confused."
He further asserted that FaZe Clan's current financial structure is
"unsustainable."
This latest development comes after a turbulent period for FaZe Clan. The organization went public in 2022 but was subsequently acquired by GameSquare for $17 million the following year. This acquisition also led to the firing of its CEO, marking a significant leadership change prior to the current influencer departures.
