YouTube is rolling out a series of significant updates designed to enhance user interaction, empower creators, and refine content moderation on its platform. These latest features include a new in-app messaging system, improved timestamp controls, and expanded AI-powered comment reply suggestions, alongside intensified efforts to combat misleading content.
New In-App Messaging for Shared Content
One of the most anticipated features is a new in-app messaging option, currently being tested with users in Ireland and Poland. This initiative aims to simplify sharing videos—including long-form content, Shorts, and live streams—and facilitate direct conversations about them within the YouTube mobile app. The process involves sending an invitation to a contact; once accepted, users can share content and engage in private, DM-style chats directly related to YouTube videos.
YouTube notes this has been a highly requested feature, and its limited rollout will help the platform gauge user engagement and refine the dedicated chat experience. The company stated its goal is to "make it easy for you to share videos you love... and have conversations about them directly on the YouTube mobile app."
Enhanced Timestamp Controls for Creators
Creators are also receiving enhanced control over video timestamps. A new drag-and-drop tool simplifies the process of positioning specific markers on the playback timeline. This improvement allows creators to precisely tag key moments in their videos, ensuring timestamps align perfectly with on-screen content or spoken mentions, ultimately enhancing viewer experience and navigation.
Furthermore, YouTube is refining how product-related timestamps appear in mobile portrait mode to be less intrusive. Instead of disruptive on-screen pop-ups, a dedicated product shelf will now appear below the playback window. While this might make them less prominent, YouTube clarifies that these product notifiers will remain visible until the next timestamp marker appears, aiming to balance user experience with product visibility.
Expanded AI Comment Reply Suggestions
In a move to streamline creator engagement, YouTube is expanding its AI-powered comment reply suggestions to a broader user base. This feature offers quick response options to video comments, aiming to simplify interaction. While some might argue these AI-generated responses could feel generic, they provide a convenient way for channels to quickly acknowledge viewer feedback.
YouTube confirms these AI suggestions are now accessible across all versions of YouTube Studio (mobile and web) and support over 100 languages. The platform emphasizes that these suggestions are entirely optional and fully editable before posting, allowing creators to personalize responses as needed. As explained by YouTube:

Increased Content Moderation Against Deceptive Practices
Beyond new features, YouTube is intensifying its efforts against channels that exploit or mislead its systems. The platform is leveraging automated detection to identify, suspend, and remove channels engaged in deceptive practices. While these actions have led to some complaints about incorrect removals, YouTube asserts that its reviews have found very few errors in enforcement.
The company highlighted common violations in recent creator conversations, including:
- Mass uploading content solely for the purpose of gaining views, likes, or other metrics.
- Mass uploading auto-generated or low-value content.
- Mass uploading content scraped from other creators with minimal edits.
- Content misleading people into clicking off-platform.
- Content that would add shocking violence at the end of an otherwise "cute" or animated video.
These actions fall under YouTube's Spam, deceptive practices, and scams policies. YouTube maintains that only a minimal number of automated enforcement decisions were found to be incorrect, reaffirming its commitment to upholding content integrity through its evolving moderation processes. This crackdown aims to mitigate the impact of scam channels and aggregator accounts that profit from manipulating the platform.
