Google I/O 2025: Major Announcements in AI, Android, and More

Google I/O 2025, the annual developer conference, showcased significant updates across Google's product portfolio, including advancements in AI, Android, and the Gemini chatbot.

AI and Gemini Updates

Google introduced Gemini Ultra, a premium subscription service priced at $249.99 per month. It offers access to advanced AI tools like Veo 3 video generation, Flow video editing, and enhanced Gemini capabilities. Gemini Ultra also includes benefits like YouTube Premium and increased storage.

Gemini 2.5 Pro gains "Deep Think" mode, an enhanced reasoning capability currently available to trusted testers. This feature allows the model to consider multiple answers before responding, improving performance.

Veo 3, Google's latest video-generating AI model, can create sound effects, background noises, and dialogue. Imagen 4, the new AI image generator, offers improved speed and detail rendering.

The Gemini app now boasts over 400 million monthly active users. New features include real-time camera and screen-sharing with Gemini Live, deeper integration with other Google apps, and enhanced research capabilities with Deep Research.

Google launched Stitch, an AI tool for designing web and mobile app front-ends. Project Mariner, an AI agent that browses and uses websites, received significant updates, enabling it to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Project Astra, a low-latency multimodal AI experience, will power new features in Google Search and the Gemini app. Google is partnering with Samsung and Warby Parker to develop Project Astra glasses.

AI Mode in Google Search allows users to ask complex, multi-part questions. It now supports sports and finance queries and offers "try it on" options for apparel.

Gemini is integrating with Chrome, offering an AI browsing assistant. Gemma 3n, a model designed for smooth performance on various devices, is available in preview. Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs, and Vids are also receiving AI-powered updates.

Android and Wear OS Updates

Android received several updates at a separate event, The Android Show. These include enhanced features for finding lost devices, improved security tools, and the new Material 3 Expressive design language.

Wear OS 6 introduces a unified font for a cleaner look and dynamic theming for Pixel Watches. New design guidelines and resources are available for developers.

Other Updates

Google Play Store received updates for developers, including new subscription management tools, topic pages, audio previews, and an improved checkout experience.

Android Studio is integrating new AI features, including "Journeys" and "Agent Mode," to assist developers. It also includes enhanced crash insights powered by Gemini.

Beam, Google's 3D teleconferencing platform, offers near-perfect head tracking and real-time speech translation. Google Meet also gains real-time speech translation.
