Google has integrated Lens into YouTube Shorts, allowing users to search for items seen in videos directly from their mobile devices.
How It Works
Using Google Lens in YouTube Shorts is simple:
- Pause the Short.
- Tap "Lens" in the top menu.
- Select the item you want to search.
Lens can identify objects, translate text, and provide information about locations. Results appear above the video. Swipe down to resume playback.
This feature works with various items, including products, plants, animals, landmarks, and text. It even translates captions in real-time. Some searches provide AI Overviews with detailed information.
For example, if a Short features a landmark you'd like to visit, you can use Lens to identify it and learn more about its history and culture.

Limitations
There are some restrictions. Google Lens won't work on Shorts with YouTube Shopping affiliate tags or paid product promotions.
Tagging a product via YouTube Shopping disables Lens search.
Search results are organic only; no ads appear when using Lens. Facial recognition is not used, though results may appear for famous people when relevant. The feature is currently limited to mobile devices (iOS and Android).
