Instagram Now Supports 3:4 Photos
Instagram has rolled out a new update supporting the 3:4 aspect ratio for photos. This change means images taken in the 3:4 format, common for many smartphone cameras, will display natively in the feed.

Previously, 3:4 images were stretched to fit Instagram's display requirements. This update ensures a more accurate representation of the original image.
Going forward when you upload a 3:4 image it’ll now appear exactly as you shot it. This works with both single-photo posts and carousels.
While Instagram emphasizes video and messaging, this update offers content creators more control over their visual presentation. Users can still share images in 1:1 (square) and 4:5 aspect ratios.
Impact on Content Strategy
While video content like Reels dominates Instagram engagement, photos remain relevant, especially for personal connections. This update provides another option for refining your Instagram content strategy.
Although over 50% of Instagram feed content is now AI-recommended Reels, photos still hold value. Consider incorporating 3:4 images into your mix to enhance visual appeal and potentially improve engagement.
This update, while seemingly small, offers a valuable tool for those focused on visual storytelling on Instagram.
