Notion Adds AI-Powered Meeting Transcription to Rival Granola and Otter.ai

Notion has launched a new AI-powered meeting transcription feature, further expanding its productivity suite. This feature automatically transcribes meetings, generates summaries, and allows users to take notes simultaneously. This move positions Notion to compete with established players like Granola and Otter.ai, as well as integrated solutions from companies like Zoom and ClickUp.

The AI note-taking tool functions similarly to Granola, using system audio to capture the conversation. Currently available on the Notion Mac app (version 4.7.0), the feature is expected to roll out to mobile apps soon. To activate the transcription, users simply type "/meet" on any Notion page.

Notion emphasizes the importance of obtaining consent from all meeting participants before recording. After confirming consent, the transcription begins. Upon stopping the recording, the tool generates an AI-powered summary. Users can customize the summary format by choosing options like "Auto," "Sales Call," "Standup," or "Team Meeting."

The AI note taker currently supports over a dozen languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Dutch, and Swedish.

This new feature integrates seamlessly with other Notion functionalities. Users can easily search across meeting transcripts and other documents, share transcribed notes, and move meeting blocks to different workspaces.

Notion Expands Productivity Suite

This launch follows other recent additions to Notion's growing suite of tools. These include an AI-powered email client for Gmail and a dedicated calendar app. Notion continues to evolve beyond its core note-taking and document editing capabilities, aiming to become a comprehensive productivity platform.

With the introduction of AI-powered meeting transcription, Notion strengthens its offering for both individual users and enterprise clients. This feature streamlines meeting workflows, improves collaboration, and enhances overall productivity.
