Pizza Hut Launches Mobile App for Book It! Reading Program
Pizza Hut has modernized its 40-year-old Book It! summer reading program with a new mobile app. Launching June 1st, the app aims to keep elementary school children engaged in reading throughout the summer.
Parents can use the app to set personalized monthly reading goals based on their child's abilities. Kids earn a free Personal Pan Pizza for reaching their monthly goal.
Book It! Goes Digital to Combat Summer Slide
The original Book It! program, established in 1984, has helped over 70 million children develop a love for reading. The new app updates the program for the digital age, making it easier for families to participate.
Research shows that many elementary school children experience learning loss during the summer break. Pizza Hut's Book It! program strives to combat this "summer slide" by encouraging consistent reading habits.
“With the launch of the BOOK IT! app, we're making it even easier for parents to connect with their kids, set meaningful reading goals and inspire plenty of fun pizza-filled memories with their families,” said Lucila Cuello, chief people and culture officer for Pizza Hut U.S.
This mobile-focused initiative follows Pizza Hut's March Madness second-screen companion app. This AI-powered app offered real-time reactions and exclusive offers during the tournament.
Pizza Hut's parent company, Yum! Brands, is increasingly incorporating AI into its operations, including voice-automated ordering and enhanced restaurant analytics. The Book It! app reflects this broader trend towards digital innovation.
