X (Twitter) Experiences Outages After Data Center Fire

X (formerly Twitter) suffered significant outages following a fire at one of its data centers. The fire, reportedly caused by a battery issue at the Oregon facility, triggered cascading problems across X's network.

Many users reported difficulties logging in, and new user sign-ups were also impacted. X acknowledged the issues, stating their team was working to resolve them.

We are experiencing a data center outage and the team is actively working to remediate the issue.

A subsequent update from X confirmed ongoing issues with logins, sign-ups, notifications, and premium features.

We're still experiencing issues from yesterday's data center outage. Login and sign-up services are unavailable for some users, and there may be delays in notifications and Premium features. Our team is working 24/7 to resolve this.

While X hasn't officially linked the outages to the Oregon fire, it appears to be the primary cause. Elon Musk admitted that "failover redundancy" measures failed and that "major operational improvements need to be made." He pledged to dedicate significant time to addressing the issues.

Musk Shifts Focus Back to X and Tesla

Coinciding with the outages, Musk announced he's scaling back his work on government projects to focus on X, Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. He cited the rollout of "critical technologies" as the reason for the shift.

I must be super focused on X/xAI and Tesla, plus Starship launch next week, as we have critical technologies rolling out.

While Musk will continue dedicating some time to government initiatives, he believes his primary work with the "DOGE" group is complete. This renewed focus on his businesses could lead to faster resolution of issues like the recent outages and accelerate development of key X projects, such as in-stream payments and banking.

X's services appear to have stabilized over the long weekend.
