Hugging Face Introduces Two Open-Source Humanoid Robots

AI development platform Hugging Face expands into robotics with the launch of two open-source humanoid robots: HopeJR and Reachy Mini.

HopeJR: A Full-Sized Humanoid Robot

HopeJR is a full-size humanoid robot with 66 degrees of freedom, enabling a wide range of movements, including walking and arm manipulation. Hugging Face estimates the cost per unit to be around $3,000.

Reachy Mini: A Desktop AI Companion

Reachy Mini is a smaller, desktop robot designed for AI application testing. It can move its head, talk, and listen. Its estimated cost is between $250 and $300.

“The important aspect is that these robots are open source, so anyone can assemble, rebuild, and understand how they work. Their affordability prevents robotics from being dominated by a few large players with potentially opaque systems,” said Clem Delangue, Hugging Face co-founder and CEO.

While shipping dates are not finalized, Hugging Face aims to ship initial units by the end of the year. A waitlist is currently open.

Open Source and Accessible Robotics

These new robots stem from Hugging Face's acquisition of humanoid robotics startup Pollen Robotics. This acquisition provided Hugging Face with the expertise needed to develop HopeJR and Reachy Mini.

This release builds on Hugging Face's growing presence in the robotics field. In 2024, they launched LeRobot, a platform offering open AI models, datasets, and tools for robotics development. Earlier in 2025, Hugging Face released an updated version of its 3D-printed robotic arm, the SO-101, and expanded LeRobot's training data to include information for self-driving machines through a partnership with AI startup Yaak.
