X Experiments with Community Notes to Bridge Divides

X announced an experiment using its Community Notes feature to identify posts that resonate with users holding diverse viewpoints. This initiative leverages the crowdsourced nature of Community Notes, typically used for flagging misleading content.

Starting Thursday, select Community Notes contributors will rate and provide feedback on specific posts. The selection process is based on initial like activity.

X aims to develop an open-source algorithm that identifies posts liked by users with differing perspectives. This feedback will be crucial for the algorithm's development.

Contributors will share what they like and dislike about selected posts. Options like "I learned something interesting" or "I don't agree with it" will be available.

“People often feel the world is divided, yet Community Notes shows people can agree, even on contentious topics,” X stated. “This experimental feature seeks to uncover ideas and opinions that bridge perspectives. It can bring awareness to what resonates broadly and motivate people to share those ideas. Ultimately, it could help move the world forward.”

X launched Community Notes in 2022 as a move away from traditional fact-checking. The feature has since been adopted by Meta's Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
