YouTube Improves Monetization Review Process
YouTube is streamlining its content review process to help creators monetize their videos faster. The platform is automating secondary reviews for videos initially marked as eligible for limited or no ads. This change aims to reduce the need for creators to manually appeal decisions.
Currently, YouTube reviews each uploaded video for ad suitability. Creators receive a green, yellow, or red dollar sign indicating whether their content is eligible for all, some, or no ads, respectively.

Automated Secondary Reviews
Previously, creators had to manually request a review if they believed their video was incorrectly flagged. Now, YouTube will automatically send videos with a yellow dollar sign (limited ads) for a second review, often by a human reviewer.
“To improve the accuracy of our yellow icon decisions and get your videos monetizing faster, we are experimenting with automatically sending videos that receive a 'Limited or no ads' rating for an additional review that may be completed by a human," says YouTube.
This automated secondary review process aims to improve accuracy and reduce the need for appeals. While the initial review might take up to 24 hours in some cases, YouTube expects this to lead to faster final decisions in the long run.
Faster and More Accurate Decisions
YouTube emphasizes that this change will ultimately expedite the overall review process and provide creators with more confidence in their video's monetization status. Creators can still appeal decisions if needed.
This update, combined with YouTube's recent expansion of ad slots on previously ineligible videos, signifies the platform's focus on increasing ad opportunities for both creators and itself. While this may lead to more ads for viewers, it also means more potential revenue for creators.
Creators are advised to upload videos as "Unlisted" or "Private" to allow for the slightly longer initial review time. They will receive an email notification within 24 hours once a final decision is made, indicated by a colored icon in YouTube Studio.
