As professionals increasingly leverage LinkedIn for networking and career growth, understanding how to maximize in-app performance is crucial. LinkedIn's VP of Product Management, Gyanda Sachdeva, has shared valuable insights into key engagement trends and actionable tips for users aiming to boost their content performance in 2026. These recommendations are reinforced by recent usage statistics, indicating a growing opportunity for impactful engagement on the platform.

Over the past year, LinkedIn has seen a significant increase in activity, with content sharing up by 15% and comments in the feed rising by 24%. These double-digit engagement increases highlight the expanding opportunities for users to connect and share expertise.

Share Your Expertise and Experience

Sachdeva emphasizes the importance of sharing authentic professional insights. "People want to hear from other humans, and they want to hear real, lived experiences and insights," she states. "We consistently see that the content driving the strongest engagement falls into a few key themes - and our members tell us they want more of these."

These high-engagement themes include:

  • Industry news and your perspective on it, product announcements, or trends shaping your field.
  • Informative content, especially around work, business, or the economy.
  • Career stories and advice from your own lived experience, featuring insightful lessons and stories that only you can tell.

Your unique professional insights, drawn from personal experiences, hold significant value. Condensing these learnings into concise summaries can perform exceptionally well on LinkedIn.

The Role of AI in Content Creation

While LinkedIn has integrated AI tools across its app, including for post creation, Sachdeva advises against over-reliance on artificial intelligence.

"One thing I do want to reiterate is that while I encourage you to use AI as a tool to brainstorm or sharpen your thinking, professionals want to hear from real professionals about real experiences. AI is best used to augment your expression. Think of AI as a tool, not a crutch: members, not AI, power the best engagement on LinkedIn."

This perspective suggests that while AI can assist in refining ideas, the core authenticity and personal touch must originate from the user to foster genuine engagement.

Tackling Fake Engagement

LinkedIn is also actively working to combat artificial engagement on the platform. Following reports of automated engagement and "engagement pod" activity, LinkedIn's VP of Product, Oscar Rodriguez, provided an update on these efforts.

"Over the last few months, we've continued to take significant steps to address this. We've removed LinkedIn groups exhibiting signs of engagement pod behaviors. We've also reached out to thousands of members whose actions showed signs of participation in engagement pods or use of automated commenting tools, reminding them of our policies and warning of possible account restrictions and removals from LinkedIn programs, including Top Voices."

Users can expect LinkedIn to continue its targeted approach to platform misuse throughout 2026, ensuring a more authentic and valuable professional environment.

Optimizing Posting Frequency

For optimal impact, Sachdeva recommends publishing between 2-5 LinkedIn posts per week. Members who post twice per week, on average, see up to 5 times more profile views.

"For best results, focus on quality and consider spacing out posts to give each breathing room when on very similar topics. Keep in mind that posting more than once a day won't hurt your total reach, but people want to see content from a range of voices. If you share several posts close together, members will likely see the one that is most relevant to them."

Understanding the Algorithm

Addressing questions about algorithm changes and post reach, Sachdeva noted that distribution and reach naturally fluctuate based on content factors like topic, timing, format, and audience engagement. With more people posting and joining conversations, there's increased activity and competition in the feed, but also more opportunities.

Regarding concerns about possible gender bias in LinkedIn's algorithm, Sachdeva clarified:

"There are many signals that can impact the distribution of your post, such as usefulness and uniqueness of the content, timeliness of the topic, relevance to the viewer, frequency of posting, use of media, if you've got context in the video post caption, or whether the language feels promotional or generic. These and many other factors determine what gets distributed and to whom. Importantly though, we do not factor in gender, age or other demographics of the poster into content ranking."

While some users have expressed dissatisfaction with this official stance, LinkedIn maintains that demographic factors like gender are not considered in content ranking.

Crafting Engaging Posts

To maximize engagement, Sachdeva advises users to focus on creating relevant, timely posts that spark conversations. "A strong first sentence, a clear point of view and a simple narrative that brings people into the story can go a long way in helping your content land," she explains. This advice is also echoed on LinkedIn's creation tips page.

Hashtags and Video Content

Interestingly, Sachdeva reiterates that hashtags do not impact distribution. "Hashtags do not impact distribution, so no need to include them. If you still want to include them for other reasons, such as your own tracking or to help members search for them since they are clickable, you can continue to do so," she states.

Conversely, video posts are a powerful engagement driver. "Video is a key part of LinkedIn's content ecosystem, and it's one of several powerful ways to share your voice," Sachdeva notes. "Through video, we're unlocking access to shared experiences and wisdom from other professionals to help members navigate their professional journey more meaningfully."

LinkedIn previously reported that videos are 20 times more likely to be shared in the app and generate 1.4 times more engagement than other post types. For effective video content, Sachdeva suggests a strong hook, highlighted in text form, to drive engagement.

These valuable pointers from LinkedIn's product leadership offer a clear roadmap for professionals looking to enhance their presence and impact on the platform in 2026.
